A very textured red with juicy strawberry fruit, good complexity and an almost Pinot Noir-like softness. It’s made from old vines and matured in wood in spectacular cellars in picturesque Collioure on France’s Vermilion Coast.
The 2019 Abbé Rous ‘Réserve des Peintres’ Collioure from Matisse country in deepest south-west of France (it’s almost in Spain) is perfect winter fare, being crammed with ripe, juicy red fruit. A blend of oak-aged, old vine Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, it’s rich, soft and suitably warming.
